Hi friends, first of all I think I should say this. I'm also new to this field, but at the beginning it was not easy to understand the things are happening here to me. Yes, there are lot of documentations in VMware documentation site, but can you build your own virtual infrastructure by reading them (I mean can you read and understand every thing out there? Even-though you could understand it,is there a A-Z path to build your data center? )?. As a student I also faced to these challenges. Actually you can find a lot of blogs and web sites relating to vSphere virtualization, but it is very rare to find one which includes every steps. Also please feel free to give some feedback and ask any questions. Let's try to convert this in to a good forum. vSpher 5.1 is the latest version up to now. So let's start !!!!!!!!
What is virtualization?
Briefly virtualization enables you to run more workloads (multiple Operating Systems) on a single server by consolidating the environment. Converting to a virtualized data center reduces the required datacenter square footage, rack space, power, cooling, cabling, storage and network. So you can see why this is so needed technology in today.
It is a bundle of softwares. For data center virtualization, the most important tools are,
- ESXi server: It is a type one hypervisor and top on it we are going to create our virtual infrastructure.
- vCenter Server: It is the management server, which manages HA, DRS etc, (Don't worry these words we can learn them later :) ).
- vSpehere Client: Provides a nice GUI to remote logging sessions.
